How it works

This fantasy points calculator for basketball is a blank sheet of six stat rows: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and turnovers. Type a stat line and the total adds itself up. A second sheet also scores made and attempted shots.

Type a stat line

Work down the first column: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers. The small number under each box is the running total. Add a player goes up to 12 columns.

Pick the table your league starts from

Six stats uses one large host's default: 1.2 a rebound, 1.5 an assist, 3 a steal or block, minus 1 a turnover. Shot by shot uses another's: 2 an assist, 4 a steal or block, minus 2 a turnover, plus made and attempted shots.

Check it against one line

28 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 block and 3 turnovers come to 52.6 on Six stats. Add 3 threes, 10 of 19 field goals and 5 of 6 free throws, and Shot by shot gives 57.

Tips
  • Box scores print shots as made-attempted: 10-19 goes in as 10 made and 19 attempted.
  • Per-game averages work too. The boxes take one decimal, so 7.8 rebounds is fine.
  • Count a made three twice on Shot by shot: once as a three-pointer and once among the field goals made.

Questions and answers

How are fantasy basketball points calculated?

Each stat is multiplied by its value and the results are added. Under one large host's default a point is 1, a rebound 1.2, an assist 1.5, a steal or block 3 and a turnover minus 1.

Do these values match my league?

They match two large hosts' published defaults for points leagues, read on the date shown. A commissioner can change any value, so your league's own settings page has the last word. The scoring key under each sheet says where the two defaults differ.

Does this fantasy basketball calculator look up player stats?

No. Nothing is looked up or projected, and no player is named. You type the stats from a box score, and the same line always gives the same total.

What is a made three-pointer worth?

On Shot by shot, 5 in all: 3 for the points, 1 for the three, 2 for the made field goal, minus 1 for the attempt. On Six stats it is worth its 3 points.

Does it work for category or rotisserie leagues?

No. Those leagues rank teams stat by stat and have no points total. This sheet only turns one player's stat line into one number.

All 26 scoring lines

Six stats sheet: one host's default values 6

  • Assists (1.5 each) One and a half for every assist: six of them are worth 9, a little more than seven rebounds.
  • Blocks (3 each) 3 for every blocked shot, the same as a steal.
  • Points scored 1 fantasy point for each real point under both defaults checked, so a 28-point night starts at 28 on either sheet.
  • Rebounds (1.2 each) Offensive and defensive rebounds counted together, 1.2 apiece. Eight of them are worth 9.6.
  • Steals (3 each) 3 for every steal, the joint highest value on this sheet. Two steals equal five rebounds.
  • Turnovers (minus 1 each) Each turnover takes 1 away. Type the count as a plain number and the sheet does the subtracting.

Shot by shot sheet: the other host's default values 10

  • Assists (2 each) 2 for every assist, twice a rebound on this sheet.
  • Blocks (4 each) 4 for every blocked shot, level with a steal and double an assist.
  • Field goals attempted (minus 1 each) Every shot from the floor costs 1, made or missed. The second number of the pair, the 19 in 10-19.
  • Field goals made (2 each) 2 for every made basket from the floor, twos and threes alike. The first number of the pair a box score prints, the 10 in 10-19.
  • Free throws attempted (minus 1 each) Every trip to the line costs 1 a shot, so 5 of 6 from the line nets minus 1 before the 5 real points.
  • Free throws made (1 each) 1 for every made free throw, which cancels the 1 its attempt costs and leaves the real point.
  • Rebounds (1 each) A flat 1 for each rebound at either end of the floor on the Shot by shot sheet.
  • Steals (4 each) 4 for every steal: one steal is worth as much as four rebounds here.
  • Three-pointers made (1 extra each) 1 on top of the three real points and the 2 for a made field goal. Count each three here and again among the field goals made.
  • Turnovers (minus 2 each) Each turnover takes 2 away, so one of them wipes out an assist.

Totals the sheet works out 2

  • Total (Shot by shot) The eleven lines, each times its value, added up for each player. The same night with 3 threes, 10 of 19 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the line comes to 57.
  • Total (Six stats) The six lines, each times its value, added up for each player. 28 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 block and 3 turnovers come to 52.6.

Scoring key: where the two defaults differ 8

  • The other host's table It pays 1.2 a rebound, 1.5 an assist, 3 a steal or block, takes 1 a turnover and leaves shots out. That is the Six stats sheet.
  • Reading a box score Shots are printed as made-attempted. 10-19 goes in as 10 made and 19 attempted.
  • Rebounds and assists at the other host This sheet pays 1.2 a rebound and 1.5 an assist. The other default checked pays 1 and 2.
  • Shots on this sheet This default gives a made or missed shot nothing beyond the real points. The other default scores makes and attempts, on the Shot by shot sheet.
  • Steals and blocks at the other host 3 each on this sheet. The other default checked pays 4 for each.
  • Turnovers at the other host Minus 1 on this sheet. The other default checked takes 2.
  • What a made shot comes to A made three is 5 in all: 3 points, 1 for the three, 2 for the make, less 1 for the attempt. A made two is 3 and a made free throw is 1.
  • What a miss costs A missed field goal or free throw takes 1, because the attempt counts and nothing is added back.
