Make the lineup
Replace the sample names with your team, one per line. Set the quarters, then print the chart for the bench or copy it as text. Subbing halfway through each quarter? Choose 8 and read each column as half a quarter.
How the bench is shared
Five play and the rest sit. Ten players over four quarters make 20 bench turns, so everyone plays two quarters and sits two. With eight there are 12 turns: four players sit once and four sit twice. Next game sits the ones who sat least first.
Questions and answers
Can a player who sat come back in?
Yes. Basketball allows unlimited substitutions, made only when play is stopped, so a player can go off and come back. The chart changes the five only between its columns. If your league has a playing-time rule, check the chart against it before you print.
What do positions 1 to 5 mean?
They are the five positions by number: 1 point guard, 2 shooting guard, 3 small forward, 4 power forward, 5 center. The fair rotation moves players between the guard, forward and center spots, so nobody spends the whole game in one.
Is there a blank basketball lineup template?
The printed chart comes filled in: one row per player, one column per quarter, a code such as PG or C in each cell. For a blank sheet of names, numbers and positions, print the basketball roster template.
