Basketball Roster Template With a Tryout List: how it works
This basketball roster template gives a coach two forms. Team roster has 15 numbered lines with boxes for jersey number, name, position, height and grade. Tryout list has 20 lines, numbered to match the numbers the players wear, with a Notes box on each. Type the names in, or print either sheet blank for a pen. No team or player is loaded.
A season roster and a tryout list
On Team roster every line takes a jersey number, a name, a position, a height and a school grade. Remove takes columns off from the right, so an adult team can lose Grade. Tryout list has no jersey box: its line number is the tryout number, so evaluators write against a number, not a name. On paper the title line has blanks for the team and the season.
What goes in the Position box
The five positions have letters and numbers: PG or 1 for point guard, SG or 2 for shooting guard, SF or 3 for small forward, PF or 4 for power forward, C or 5 for center. A standard line-up is two guards, two forwards and a center. A combo guard covers both guard spots, so write PG/SG.
Tips
Long names are cut off in a narrow printed box. Press Remove once or twice before Print filled sheet: fewer columns print wider.
Running the tryout on paper? Print the list blank. When the squad is picked, post a clean list of numbers, never the sheet with the notes.
Jersey order reads fastest for a scorer, starters first for a coach.
Questions and answers
Can I print the roster blank and write on it?
Yes. Print blank sheet prints the open sheet with every box empty: the numbered lines, the headings and the position notes. Anything typed is left out, a renamed heading included. Nothing downloads, so to keep a file pick Save as PDF where your browser asks for a printer.
Is it safe to type a youth team's details in?
Names and jersey numbers on your own device, yes: nothing typed is sent to us. It all stays in this browser, though, and Clear sheet empties only the open sheet and keeps a copy so Undo can bring it back. On a school or club computer use a private window, or print the roster blank. Birth dates and parents' phone numbers have no box here: collect those by pen.
Do I have to use all five positions?
No. Guard, forward and center are the three types, and the five names split them further. Some teams play positionless basketball, where players cover roles across several positions: type over Position and call it Role. No name yet? Try the team name generator.
No.Twenty numbered lines on the Tryout list. The line number is the tryout number a player wears, so an evaluator can write about No. 7 without knowing a name. The boxes hold name, grade, position and the coaches' notes.
