This wheel of birthdays holds the twelve months and the days 1st to 31st. Tap Months and press Spin the wheel. Birthdays take two spins: the month card names a day chip that holds only days the month has. Nobody is born on 31 April.

Two spins make one date

The birthday wheel spinner opens with months and days on one wheel, so tap Months first. Say April lands. The card reads 30 days, Aries to the 19th, Taurus from the 20th, and points to the Days 1 to 30 chip. Tap it and spin: the 14th. 14 April, an Aries. February's chip stops at 29, and a 29th there is a leap-day birthday. Press Clear results before the month spin and Copy hands back both.

Why 14 February beats 14 January

Every time you press Spin the wheel, birthday months get one chance in twelve each, so dates in short months come up more often. 14 February lands once in 348 pairs of spins (12 times 29), 14 January once in 372 (12 times 31). On a real calendar each date sits near one in 365 and 29 February near one in 1,461: four years hold 1,461 days and one leap day. This wheel deals a leap day about four times too often. One wheel of all 366 dates would fix the short months but not the leap day.

Tips

  • At a birthday, spin the wheel as a guessing game: everyone calls a month before the spin, and whoever is right picks the next game.
  • For a cast, spin every month first in Elimination, so no two characters share one, then switch to Normal for the days.
  • Landed on 29 February? Decide whether the character celebrates on 28 February or 1 March in other years.

To the months, yes: each has one chance in twelve. The dates are less even, as the sums above show. A repeated birthday is no fault: among 23 people a shared one is more likely than not, at about 51 percent.

Which star sign goes with the date?

The month card names both signs and the day the second one starts. The 19th to 23rd cards list the signs starting that day. A start can shift by a day between years, so check an edge birthday against its year on the zodiac wheel.

Can I add a birth year?

Yes, in two more spins. The wheel of years gives a decade. For the last digit, spin the 1 to 10 wheel, read 10 as 0 and respin a future year. If February came up, spin the year before the day: 1900 had no leap day and 2000 had one.
