How this list was compiled

A list of 100 Roman team names written by Wheel of Teams on 2026-10-02 and filed in five groups: legions, cohorts and ranks, gladiators and the arena, senate, forum and toga puns, Roman numerals in a name, and Latin club, class and quiz teams. The names are our own work; none was taken from a real team, a company or a product, and any match is a coincidence. The Roman words were looked up on 2026-10-02 in four English Wikipedia articles, text under CC BY-SA 4.0: Roman legion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_legion), Gladiator (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladiator), Ancient Rome (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Rome) and Roman army (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_army). Under 18 names a line gives the unit's size or the rank's duty; every number comes from the Roman legion article, and the other lines follow the opening of the English Wikipedia article on that unit or rank (for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contubernium_(Roman_army_unit), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optio and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turma), read the same day. The answer about the cavalry turma follows the Turma article and the Decury article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decury). Compared by script the same day with every other list on this site: no name is repeated. Nothing was checked against a trademark register. Licence: own work
