How this list was compiled

A list of 115 Viking-themed team and group names written by Wheel of Teams on 2026-10-02 and filed in five groups. The 24 Old Norse words are printed with their meaning under them. Each was read on 2026-10-02 in two dictionaries: its Old Norse entry in Wiktionary (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Old_Norse_lemmas, text under CC BY-SA 4.0) and Geir T. Zoëga's A Concise Dictionary of Old Icelandic (Oxford, 1910, in the public domain; read at https://norroen.info/dct/zoega/). Knörr, Fjörðr and Höfn are printed in the dictionary's spelling; Wiktionary writes the same three words with an o that carries a hook. Ship types, pastimes and the fact that Vikings are not known to have worn horned helmets follow Wikipedia's Vikings and Longship articles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikings and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longship), read the same day, text under CC BY-SA 4.0. No name is or ends in the nickname that clubs play under, none was taken from a TV show, a video game or a comic, and no god is named. Compared by script the same day with every other list on this site: no name is repeated. Nothing was checked against a trademark register. Licence: own work
