Spin the Wheel Teams: Build Your Own Wheel of Teams: how it works

This wheel of teams opens with 34 placeholder teams in four sets: ten bib colors, Team 1 to Team 8, Team A to Team H and eight animal names. Tap a set to shrink the wheel, or press My list and type your own teams, one per line. Every team left on the wheel has the same chance on every spin.

Spin it as it is, or load your own teams

A first result is on the page when it opens, so you can see how a team spinner wheel reads: the pointer sits at the top and the team under it wins. Press Spin the wheel, or tap the wheel itself, for another. The four pills cut the wheel to one set, so Color teams leaves ten segments and Numbered teams leaves eight. To spin your own teams, press My list and type or paste up to 100 names, one per line. Your list is kept in this browser for next time.

Choose the mode before the first spin

Normal puts every team back after each spin, so the same team can win twice running. With eight teams on the wheel that happens about one time in eight, which is chance doing its job and not a fault. Elimination takes each winner off. Use it whenever a team can only be picked once: drawing a playing order, handing one team to each friend, or deciding who gets the bye. Tally keeps every team on and counts the wins under the wheel.

Two fair ways to split people into teams

Way one: leave the team names on the wheel, switch to Tally and spin once per person. It is quick, but the sides come out uneven, because nothing stops Red Team winning five times. Way two gives equal sides. Put the players' names in My list, switch to Elimination and deal each winner to the next team in turn: first spin to Red, second to Blue, third to Green, then round again. Twelve players into three teams takes twelve spins and always ends four, four and four.

Tips

  • Write a team twice in My list to give it a double chance. The wheel treats every line as its own segment.
  • To seed a bracket, filter to Lettered teams and use Elimination: the first team off the wheel is seed one, the next is seed two.
  • For a home or away call, or to settle which captain picks first, type only the two names into My list. A two-name team spinner is a coin toss the whole room can watch.
  • Short names read best on a phone: Rovers fits a segment, Eastside Thursday Night Rovers does not.
  • Copy the share link after a spin that matters, so the group chat sees the same team on the same wheel that you did.

Questions and answers

Is the wheel of teams really random?

Yes. The winner is chosen by a random number in your browser before the wheel starts to move, and the wheel then turns to that team. Every team still on the wheel has the same chance, wherever it sits and however long its name is. The only fixed result is the one printed on the page when it first loads, which is there so the page is never blank.

How many teams can I put on the wheel?

My list takes 2 to 100 entries. Past about 40 the segments get thin and hard to read on a phone, so for a big league it is easier to spin one division or pool at a time. The 34 starter teams are split into sets of eight or ten for the same reason.

Can I spin real league teams instead of typing them?

Yes. Each big league has its own wheel on this site with every current team already loaded, plus filters for conference and division, so there are no 30 names to type. Start with the pro football wheel or open all team wheels and choose a league. Those lists carry the date they were last checked.

How do I draw a draft order with it?

Put each manager's name in My list, switch to Elimination and spin until the wheel is empty. The order the names come off is the draft order, first pick first. Do it on a shared screen or send the share link so nobody has to take your word for it. For a snake draft, the fantasy draft order generator writes out the whole pick table.

Are my team names sent anywhere?

No. The list is stored in your own browser and never reaches us. The one exception is a share link: the names travel inside the link itself, so anyone you send it to can read them. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings deletes the saved list and brings back the 34 starter teams.

How this list was compiled: Written for this site on 2026-09-18. These are 34 plain placeholder teams in four sets: ten bib colors, Team 1 to Team 8, Team A to Team H and eight animal names. They are labels for pickup games, PE lessons and game nights, not a list of real clubs, and no set is ranked or weighted. They give the wheel something to spin before you type your own teams into My list. Licence: own work
