Scoring key

Ten rings score 10 down to 1
Gold is 10 and 9, red 8 and 7, blue 6 and 5, black 4 and 3, white 2 and 1.
An arrow touching a line takes the higher score
Such an arrow is called a line cutter or a line breaker.
A miss is typed as 0 0
An arrow outside the rings scores nothing. Leave a box empty only for an arrow not yet shot.
An inner ten is typed as 10 10
Outdoors the inner 10 ring, or X ring, can break a tie: keep your own count of Xs beside the sheet.
Write an end from the highest arrow down
Arrow values go on a score sheet in descending order: 10, 9, 7, not 7, 10, 9.
Nobody touches the arrows before scoring
A disputed arrow stays in the target so that a judge can rule on how it lies.
A bouncer or a pass through can still score
At larger events each hole is marked after scoring, so an arrow that bounced out or went through is given its unmarked hole.
Too many arrows in an end
The top-scoring arrow is dropped and a miss goes down in its place.
Five-zone scoring
Some outdoor imperial rounds score 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1 by color. Type those values in the same boxes.
36 arrows is three dozen 36
The count shot at one distance of a longer outdoor round.

What you type 2

  • End: three arrow scores One small box for each arrow, 0 to 10. The row adds its three arrows as you type, and the running total under it is the score so far.
  • Round total Every row added up. With two or more archers on the sheet, the highest total is marked as leading.

Scoring an arrow 9

  • A bouncer or a pass through can still score At larger events each hole is marked after scoring, so an arrow that bounced out or went through is given its unmarked hole.
  • A miss is typed as 0 An arrow outside the rings scores nothing. Leave a box empty only for an arrow not yet shot.
  • An arrow touching a line takes the higher score Such an arrow is called a line cutter or a line breaker.
  • An inner ten is typed as 10 Outdoors the inner 10 ring, or X ring, can break a tie: keep your own count of Xs beside the sheet.
  • Five-zone scoring Some outdoor imperial rounds score 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1 by color. Type those values in the same boxes.

Scoring an arrow, continued

  • Nobody touches the arrows before scoring A disputed arrow stays in the target so that a judge can rule on how it lies.

  • Too many arrows in an end The top-scoring arrow is dropped and a miss goes down in its place.

Round lengths 3

  • 36 arrows is three dozen The count shot at one distance of a longer outdoor round.
  • 60 arrows is an indoor qualification round Twenty rows of three arrows.
  • 72 arrows is an outdoor ranking round Twenty-four rows of three, numbered by arrow.

How this list was compiled: The layout is our own work: one row for each three arrows, a small box for each arrow, the row's total worked out beside the boxes, a running total and a round total. Checked on 2026-10-05 against the English Wikipedia article Target archery (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_archery): ten rings scored 1 to 10 and their colors; the inner 10 ring, or X ring, as a tie-breaker outdoors; an arrow touching a boundary line (a line cutter) takes the higher score; arrow values written on the score sheet in descending order; nobody touches the arrows before scoring and a judge rules on a disputed arrow; a pass through and a bouncer; the highest scoring arrow not counted and a miss recorded when too many arrows are shot; five-zone scoring of 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1; three dozen arrows at each distance of a longer outdoor round, which is the 36 arrow sheet. The same day: an end is a round of arrows, rarely more than six (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_archery_terms); each archer shoots 72 arrows in a ranking round (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archery_at_the_Summer_Olympics) and in the qualification phase of outdoor target archery (https://www.worldarchery.sport/sport/disciplines/target-archery); an indoor qualification round is 60 arrows (https://www.worldarchery.sport/sport/disciplines/indoor-archery). The rule book of the world federation could not be opened by our reader on that day, so nothing here rests on it alone. Rows of three arrows are our layout, not a rule, and the 72 arrow sheet numbers its rows by arrow because no page read gives the size of an end in that round. No maker, bow model, club or event is named. Licence: own work

How it works

This archery scoreboard is a score sheet in your browser, not a board for the range wall: a row for each three arrows, a small box for each arrow and a running total. It prints blank for a clipboard.

Score an end

Type the archer's name under Archer 1, then each arrow's value, 0 to 10, in the three small boxes of End 1. A miss is 0, and an arrow touching a line takes the higher ring. The row adds itself and the running total shows under it. The + after the last column adds an archer, up to four side by side.

Rounds of 60 and 72 arrows

60 arrows is the length of an indoor qualification round: twenty rows of three. 72 arrows is an outdoor ranking round: twenty-four rows of three, numbered by arrow. Print blank sheet prints the open sheet empty.

  • Type each end from the highest arrow down, as paper score sheets are written: 10, 9, 7.
  • An inner ten is typed as 10. Keep a count of Xs beside the sheet if ties matter.

Questions and answers

How do you score in archery?

A target has ten rings, worth 10 at the center down to 1 at the edge. Each arrow scores the ring it lands in, an arrow touching a line takes the higher value, and an end is the sum of its arrows.

What do the colors on an archery target score?

Gold is 10 and 9, red is 8 and 7, blue is 6 and 5, black is 4 and 3, and white is 2 and 1. The small ring inside the gold is the inner ten, or X ring.

How do you fill in an archery score sheet?

Write the arrow values of each end in descending order, add the end, and carry a running total down the sheet. Here you type the arrows and the adding is done for you. A miss goes in as 0.

How many arrows are in a round?

It depends on the round. An indoor qualification round is 60 arrows and an outdoor ranking round is 72. A longer outdoor round shoots three dozen at each distance, which is the sheet of 36 arrows.

Can I print a blank archery score sheet?

Yes. Print blank sheet prints the open sheet empty on Letter or A4, with a row for each three arrows, a box for each end's total and a line for the round total.
