How it works
This random team generator splits any list of names into teams by chance. Choose how many teams you want, or how many players go on each, and team sizes never differ by more than one.

Make random teams from your list
Type or paste your players, one per line or separated by commas; the twelve sample names go at your first key. Pick Number of teams or Team size, then press Make teams. Press it again for a fresh draw. Copy gives a clean list for a group chat.
When the numbers do not divide
Thirteen players in two teams make seven and six. With Team size set to 4, fourteen players make two teams of four and two of three, never a team of two. Open Keep apart to stop two strong players, or two best friends, landing together.
Tips
- Picking teams for a game with keepers? Leave the goalkeepers off the list and give one to each side by hand.
- Show the draw on one screen. A split everyone watched is one nobody argues with.
Questions and answers
Is the team randomizer really random?
Yes. The whole list is shuffled at random and then cut into teams, so every player is as likely to land on any team, and the order you typed the names in makes no difference.
Can I pick teams randomly without typing names?
Yes: type numbers instead. Enter 1 to 20, make your teams, then give each player a number. It also works for a class that should not see its names on a shared screen.
How many names can the random team maker take?
Up to 200 lines of 60 characters, split into as many as 20 teams. A name typed twice stays twice, and the line under the box says so, because two players can share a name.
Does it balance teams by skill?
No. The split is by chance only. To even out skill, use Keep apart on your two or three strongest players so each team gets one, then let the draw place everyone else.
