How this list was compiled: Seven season layouts with divisions, worked out by Wheel of Teams and checked by script on 2026-10-04. In every layout division rivals meet twice, once at each home, and teams of different divisions meet once. Games inside a division follow the circle method described at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament (one team stays put and the others move round one place each round; with an odd number of teams an empty chair is added, and the team paired with it has no game that round), read on 2026-10-04; Wikipedia text is under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and only the method was taken from it. A week between two divisions pairs each team of one division with the team a set number of places along in the other, each later division being taken in a fixed order of its own. Where a division has an odd number of teams, the two teams left over in a division week play each other. The host of each game was chosen by a search that keeps every team's home and away games within one of each other and no team at home, or away, more than three weeks running. The check reads each stored layout and confirms that every team plays exactly once every week; that division rivals meet exactly twice, one game at each home; that teams of different divisions meet exactly once; that no team's home and away games differ by more than one; that the weeks, the games a week, the games in all, the home games and the weeks between a game and its rematch are what the description says; and that the season opens and closes with a division week. Each layout also passes the schedule tool's own proof with the Home and Away columns on. A division week is a week in which every division plays as many games inside itself as it can; a cross-division week has no game inside a division. In each layout a game is a pair of seat numbers with the home team first, and each division is a list of seats; the tool gives the typed names to the seats, the first lines to the first division. The counts are arithmetic on the layout, not search numbers. No real league, club or player appears in this dataset. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled

Sixteen sample team names made up by Wheel of Teams on 2026-10-04 so that the example season opens filled in: each joins something found beside a playing field with an animal. A script compared them with every other list of this site the same day and found none repeated, and none was the title of an English Wikipedia article on 2026-10-04. An example for N teams uses the first N names, the first lines forming the first division, and visitors replace them with their own. Licence: own work

How it works

This league schedule maker with divisions stores seasons for every even size from 6 to 16 teams: division rivals meet twice, once at each home, other teams once. The example is 8 teams, East and West, on 2 fields.

8 teams, East and West: 10 weeks, 40 games

Each team plays its three division rivals twice and the four teams of the other division once: 10 games, 5 at home. Weeks 1 to 3 and 8 to 10 are division weeks, weeks 4 to 7 cross-division weeks, so every rematch comes seven weeks after the first game.

Other league sizes

Two divisions give 6 teams a 7 week season, 10 teams 13 weeks, 12 teams 16 and 14 teams 19. Sixteen teams pick four divisions of four (18 weeks) or two of eight (22 weeks). A division of 3, 5 or 7 leaves one team over each division week, and the two left over play each other. Any other number of teams plays everyone once or twice, without divisions.

  • Add teams in division order: with 8 teams, names 1 to 4 are East and 5 to 8 West.
  • The example plays at 9:00 and 10:00 am on both fields; change First game starts under More options.
  • Set Date of week 1 to date every week; rename East and West under More options.

Questions and answers

How many games does each team play in a league with divisions?

In these layouts, one a week: 7 games for 6 teams, 10 for 8, 13 for 10, 16 for 12, 19 for 14, and 18 or 22 for 16. That is every division rival twice and every other team once.

How are home and away games shared out?

Division rivals each host one of their two meetings. In every stored layout a team's home and away games are equal over an even number of weeks and one apart over an odd number, and no team is home or away over three weeks running.

Is this league schedule maker with divisions free?

Yes, and it asks for no account. Team names stay in your browser; nothing is saved online, so print or copy the schedule again after any change. The print window of your browser can also save it as a PDF.

Does it keep standings or scores?

No. It makes the schedule and stops there. Standings that update online, or one web address for the whole season, take hosted league software.
