    Group Name of the day

    How it works

For stories, games and capture-the-flag teams: press New group name and three parts join, an opener such as Offline or Deprecated, a harmless computing object and a crew word. No real group is named.

Put your handle or home city first

Type it in Your handle or home city, for example Tamsin, and every name opens with it: Tamsin Semicolon Coders. Tap a part, then its padlock, to lock it; the next press swaps only the two left open. Print 30 group names makes a sheet for the team to vote on.

    What the three parts are

Openers are states a screen or a file can be in: Buffering, Unsaved, Unresponsive. Emblems sit on a desk or a keyboard, from Cursor to Pizza Box. A byte, says Wikipedia’s glossary of computer science, most commonly consists of eight bits; Byte is an emblem and Binary an opener.

    Questions and answers

What is a good name for a hacker group in a story?

Offline Semicolon Coders, Rebooted Dot Matrix Subnet, Deprecated Cursor Coding Club and Unsaved Caps Lock LAN Party. All four come from the lists below: an opener, a computing object, a crew word.

Are these the names of real hacker groups?

None was on October 4, 2026. That day a script set every part, and every name the parts can spell, beside the names linked on Wikipedia’s List of hacker groups; nothing matched. A new group may still take one.

Can a capture-the-flag team use one of these names?

Yes. The names are made for invented crews: a story, a tabletop game, a clan in a video game or a capture-the-flag team, such as Buffering Pizza Box CTF Team or Unresponsive Loading Bar Sysadmins. The page teaches nothing about breaking into a computer.
