Spin the wheel for a Bible verse or a book of the Bible. Forty well-known verses and 30 short ones print word for word from the World English Bible. The Bible book spinner holds all 66 books; each card gives the testament, the book's number, chapter count and two neighbors. The full wheel is numbered. Tap a verse group or a book section and the slices carry references and names.

Run a sword drill from the wheel

A sword drill is a race: the leader calls a reference and the first child to find it wins. The sword is the Bible: Ephesians 6:17 speaks of the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Choose one section, such as Minor Prophets, then spin and call the book. The card is your answer key: Nahum is book 34 of 66, between Micah and Habakkuk. The list under the wheel runs A to Z, so take the order from the card.

Learn a short verse by heart

Pick one of the two Short verses groups. All 30 verses have 12 words or fewer in this translation, from John 11:35 at two words to Matthew 5:9 at twelve. Tips

  • A tiebreak question: which chapter is the middle one? Psalm 117, number 595 of 1,189. It is also the shortest, at two verses.
  • Five books have one chapter each: Obadiah, Philemon, 2 John, 3 John and Jude. They are easy to flip past, so score them double.
  • For a before-and-after quiz, call only the book name. The two neighbors printed on the card are the answer.

Questions and answers

Which translation are the verses printed in?

The World English Bible, in the updated 66-book edition at ebible.org. It is in the public domain, so each verse can be printed in full. This edition writes the LORD in capitals for God's name. World English Bible is a trademark of eBible.org, and this site is not connected with them.

Why do some verses have only one quotation mark?

Each verse is printed exactly as the World English Bible has it. A speech can run across several verses: Matthew 11:28 opens a quotation that closes at the end of verse 30.

Who chose the 40 well-known verses?

We did. No official list exists, so the 40 are our own selection: 18 from the Old Testament and 22 from the New, which is how the two groups are split. The page adds no commentary. Other translations word these verses differently.

All 70 matched, checked 2026-09-19. Four cards were changed on 2026-09-19 because the verse began in the middle of a sentence when read alone. Isaiah 40:31 is now printed with the verse before it as Isaiah 40:30-31; Ephesians 2:8-9 gave way to Ephesians 4:32, 2 Corinthians 5:7 to 1 John 4:8 and 1 Peter 5:7 to Psalm 46:1.
