9 Team Round Robin Schedule: how it works
A 9 team round robin is 36 games in nine rounds: four a round, one team resting each time, eight games each. The example fills two courts with 25-minute games from 9:30 to 5:00 pm. Type your teams over the sample names, change the courts and times, and print it.
A 9 team round robin tournament on 2, 3 or 4 courts
Four games a round take two slots on two courts: 18 slots, 9:30 to 5:00 pm. A third court changes nothing, because four games on three courts still fill two slots. The fourth court is the one that counts: nine slots, finished at 1:15 pm, but two teams then play all eight games without a break. One court needs 15 hours: a weekend.
Who rests when, who starts late and who leaves first
Untick Random draw, press Make schedule, and line order fixes everything. Lines 1 to 9 sit out rounds 1, 5, 9, 4, 8, 3, 7, 2 and 6. On two courts the tool shares them out: every team plays three to five of its eight games on each court. Line 1 starts latest, at 10:45, and line 3 finishes first, by 3:45 pm.
Tips
- For a 9 person round robin, type nine names: singles at chess, darts or badminton.
- Double is 72 games, 16 per team: one day only on four courts, 9:30 to 5:00 pm, or two such days on two.
- Need a season? Clear First match starts and read each round as a week: nine weeks, four games a week, one week off per team.
Questions and answers
How long do teams wait between games with nine teams?
On the example's two courts nobody plays more than two games running. The longest gap is four slots, 1 hour 40 minutes at 25 minutes a game, and two of the nine teams have a gap that long. Four never wait more than 50 minutes. On four courts the only gap is the bye: everyone else plays every slot.
Can a 9 team round robin bracket end with playoffs?
Yes: seed from the final table. For the top four, play both semi-finals at 5:00 and the final at 5:25: three games, over by 5:50 pm. A top eight knockout is seven more games and cuts only ninth place: hard on one team.
Is there a shorter format than 36 games for nine teams?
Three pools of three: 3 games a pool, 9 in the first stage. Then the three pool winners form a new pool, the runners-up another and the third-placed teams a last one: 9 more. That is 18 games, four per team, and a final ranking from 1 to 9.
