11 Team Round Robin Schedule: how it works
An 11 team round robin tournament is 55 games in 11 rounds: five games a round and one bye for every team. The example runs five courts, 25-minute games from 9:30, and ends at 2:05 pm. Use it as your 11 team schedule generator: type in the teams, then print.
55 games on 5, 4, 3 or 2 courts
Five courts play a whole round at once: 11 slots, 9:30 to 2:05 pm. Drop to four and the day doubles, because five games need two slots a round: 22 slots, ending at 6:40 pm. Three courts give the same 6:40 finish, so the fourth buys nothing. Two courts need three slots a round and run to 11:15 pm.
Ten games straight, or a break in the middle
On five courts nobody waits between rounds, so the bye is a team's only rest. Untick Random draw, press Make schedule, and typing order sets it: lines 1 to 11 sit out rounds 1, 6, 11, 5, 10, 4, 9, 3, 8, 2 and 7. Lines 1 and 3 play ten games back to back. Line 2 rests in round 6, at 11:35, five games either side: give it to the team with the shortest bench.
Tips
- On five courts only the bye team is free, and it cannot referee five games. On three, at least five teams are off court in every slot.
- Press Double and every pair meets twice: 110 games in 22 rounds, ending at 6:40 pm on five courts.
- Every team is listed first in 5 of its 10 games, a split that fields of 10 or 12 cannot give.
Questions and answers
Why does an 11 team round robin take 11 rounds and not 10?
Only ten teams can play at once, so each round is five games with one team left over. It takes 11 rounds for everyone to sit out once, and 55 games: 11 times 10, halved.
Should I find a twelfth team to remove the bye?
A twelfth team adds no rounds, only games: 66 instead of 55, six a round. What matters is courts. On three, the day stays at 22 slots, because the extra game fills a court that stood empty. On five, six games no longer fit one slot, and a 2:05 pm finish becomes 6:40 pm.
Can this 11 team round robin schedule generator run a weekly league on two fields?
Yes. Clear First match starts and set Courts or pitches to 2. Each week lists five games on court 1, 2, 1, 2, 1: read them in pairs as early, middle and late. The lone late game is shared out: every team gets it one to three times in 11 weeks.
