10 Team Tournament Bracket
Six byes and only two opening games: in a league playoff, finishing sixth instead of seventh saves a whole game.
10 Team Tournament Bracket: how it works
A 10 team tournament bracket has more byes than opening-round teams. Six seeds wait while four play: 8 v 9 for a quarterfinal with Seed 1, and 7 v 10 for one with Seed 2. Nine games in four rounds settle it, single elimination. Type names, or press Random draw.
Who waits, who plays, and how many wins
A tournament bracket with 10 teams goes on a 16-line sheet, and the six empty lines become byes for Seeds 1 to 6. Only Seeds 1 and 2 meet a team that has already played. Game 4 is 4 v 5 and Game 5 is 3 v 6, all four fresh. Seeds 7 to 10 need four wins for the title, Seeds 1 to 6 three.
Courts, slots and an order that buys rest
One court needs 9 slots, two courts 5. Three need 4, because Games 4 and 5 are between bye seeds and one can run during the opening round. A fourth court adds nothing. On two courts, play Games 4 and 5 second and Games 3 and 6 third: both opening-round winners get a slot off before Seeds 1 and 2.
Tips
- Two pools of five first? Take the pools in turn: A's winner is Seed 1, B's is Seed 2, and so on. Both opening games and Games 4 and 5 are then cross-pool.
- With no names it prints as a blank 10 team tournament bracket template, a game number on every match.
- A 10 man tournament bracket where every winner gets a slot off between matches needs 7 slots. Two boards manage it; more do not help.
Questions and answers
Single or double elimination: which tournament bracket for 10 teams?
Single elimination is nine games, and at least four teams play only once: the losers of Games 1, 2, 4 and 5. The 10 team double elimination bracket gives everyone two games and runs 18 or 19. A 10 team round robin is 45 games.
Can singles use it as a 10 player tournament bracket?
Yes. One name per line makes it a 10 person tournament bracket for cornhole, darts or table tennis. Six of the ten lines carry a bye, so Random draw is really a draw for the four that do not. If players have a ladder or rating, seed from that.
What if one team drops out, or an eleventh enters?
Set the Teams box to 9 or 11: names stay, results clear. With nine, 8 v 9 is the only opening game and Seed 7 has a bye into a quarterfinal with Seed 2. With eleven, Seed 6 plays Seed 11 and Seed 3 gets the winner. For a dropout, delete its line from Names first.
Every game in the 10-team bracket
10 teams, single elimination: 9 games in 4 rounds. Seeds 1 to 6 have a bye.
Games of the 10-team bracket, in playing order
| Game | Round | Teams | Winner goes to | Notes |
| 1 | Round 1 | Seed 8 vs Seed 9 | Game 3 | One of only two games in round one. The winner goes to Game 3, where Seed 1 is waiting, so Seed 1 cannot start until this game is over. |
| 2 | Round 1 | Seed 7 vs Seed 10 | Game 6 | Seed 7 is the highest seed without a bye. The winner goes to Game 6 to meet Seed 2, so Seed 2 cannot start until this game is over. |
| 3 | Quarterfinal | Seed 1 vs Winner of Game 1 | Game 7 | Seed 1's first game, against the only team in this half that has already played: Seed 8 if the higher seed wins Game 1, Seed 9 if not. Schedule it after Game 4 and the Game 1 winner gets a slot off first. |
| 4 | Quarterfinal | Seed 4 vs Seed 5 | Game 7 | Seed 4 against Seed 5, both coming off a bye, so it waits on no other game and can be played while the opening round is on. |
| 5 | Quarterfinal | Seed 3 vs Seed 6 | Game 8 | Seed 3 against Seed 6, both coming off a bye. Put this game or Game 4 on a third court during the opening round and three courts finish the bracket in four slots. |
| 6 | Quarterfinal | Seed 2 vs Winner of Game 2 | Game 8 | Seed 2's first game. Its opponent has already won once: Seed 7 if the higher seed wins Game 2, Seed 10 if not. |
| 7 | Semifinal | Winner of Game 3 vs Winner of Game 4 | Game 9 | If seeds hold: Seed 1 v Seed 4. A top-six seed arrives having played once; Seed 8 or Seed 9 would arrive having played twice. |
| 8 | Semifinal | Winner of Game 5 vs Winner of Game 6 | Game 9 | If seeds hold: Seed 3 v Seed 2. On two courts played in the order Games 1 and 2, Games 4 and 5, Games 3 and 6, the Game 5 winner has had a slot off before this semifinal and the Game 6 winner has not. |
| 9 | Final | Winner of Game 7 vs Winner of Game 8 | Champion | The final, in the fourth slot at the earliest: four rounds cannot share a slot, however many courts there are. Seeds 1 to 6 would be playing their third game here, Seeds 7 to 10 their fourth. If seeds hold: Seed 1 v Seed 2. |

How this list was compiled: Layout worked out by Wheel of Teams. Ten teams go on a 16-line sheet in standard seeding order; Seeds 11 to 16 do not exist, so Seeds 1 to 6 have byes and round one is only 8 v 9 and 7 v 10. Two separate scripts agree on the nine games, on the fewest slots for one to four courts, and that seeding two pools of five in turn keeps both opening games and the 4 v 5 and 3 v 6 quarterfinals between teams from different pools.
