16 Team Round Robin Schedule: how it works
Sixteen teams that each play the other 15 once make 120 games: 15 rounds of eight, and nobody sits out. This 16 team round robin tournament fits them into one morning on eight courts, 9:00 to 12:45 with 15-minute games.
120 games by lunch, by 4:30, or not today
On eight courts a round fills one slot, 15 in all. Every team plays all 15 in a row, so court changes come out of the 15 minutes. Four courts split each round in two: 30 slots, a 4:30 finish, and no team plays more than twice running. A fifth, sixth or seventh court ends it no sooner. Three courts run to 8:15 pm. Half-hour games double everything.
A 16-team league seeded from last season
Play a round a week: 15 weeks, no weeks off. Press Double for home and away: 30 weeks, 240 games. Clear First match starts and the times go. Untick Random draw, type last season's table, first to last, and press Make schedule. Week 1 is top against bottom, 1 v 16 down to 8 v 9, the first round of a seeded 16-team bracket. The champions meet the rest of the top four late: fourth in week 13, third in week 14, second last. Second and third meet in week 7.
Tips
- Run all eight courts off one horn, so one slow court cannot hold up the other 14 teams.
- One poor court? Whatever the draw, every team plays on all eight courts and on none more than three times in its 15 games; the line under the schedule counts the spread.
- Each captain needs 15 rows of the 120: pick the team under Show only, then print, or save as PDF from your browser's print window.
Questions and answers
Round robin or knockout bracket for 16 teams?
A 16-team knockout is 15 games in four rounds, and eight teams go home after one. The round robin is 120 games, 15 each. In between, four pools of four send their top two to an eight-team bracket: 24 games plus 7, and at least three a team.
Should 16 teams play a full round robin or pools?
Two pools of eight make 56 games, seven a team. Four pools of four make 24, three a team. On four courts with 15-minute games the full 120 take 7.5 hours, the pools 3.5 and 1.5.
How do I add a lunch break?
The timetable has no break setting: rounds run back to back. Print the sheet, rule a line under round 8 and add the break to every later time. In the sample, a 45-minute lunch moves round 9 from 11:00 to 11:45 and the finish to 1:30.
