How it works

A 15 team double elimination bracket has one bye, and it goes to Seed 1. The other fourteen play Games 1 to 7, then Seed 1 meets Seed 8 or Seed 9 in Game 8. Game 28 is the final; Game 29 replays it.

Seven opening games, one bye

A 15 team seeded double elimination bracket fills fifteen of sixteen lines, and the empty one faces Seed 1. Type teams best first, or in any order and press Random draw. Game 1 is Seed 8 against Seed 9; Game 7 is Seed 2 against Seed 15.

Where round one losers go

Six of the seven pair off in Games 12, 13 and 14: the losers of Games 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7. The Game 1 loser has no partner and waits in Game 15 for the Game 11 loser. Quarterfinal losers cross the sheet: Game 8 to 18, 9 to 17, 10 to 16.

Tips
  • Two courts take 15 slots, three take 12 and four take 10. Add one if Game 29 is played.
  • Seed 1 can be out after two games: lose Game 8, then Game 18. That ties for ninth.
  • A sixteenth team? Change the Teams box to 16 and Seed 1 loses its bye. The game notes here still describe 15.

Questions and answers

How many games are in a 15 team double elimination bracket?

28, or 29 when the final is replayed: 14 in the winners bracket, 13 in the losers bracket and the championship. A 15 team round robin takes 105.

Who gets the bye with 15 teams?

Seed 1 only. Unbeaten, it wins the title in four games: 8, 19, 25 and 28. Every other seed needs at least five, and no champion plays more than nine.

Can two teams meet twice?

Not before Game 23, which can repeat Game 1, 2 or 3. Game 24 can repeat any of Games 4 to 7. Games 12 to 18, 21 and 22 are never rematches.

Where does each team finish on a 15 team double elimination tournament bracket?

Three teams share thirteenth, four share ninth, two share seventh and two share fifth. Fourth is the Game 26 loser, third the Game 27 loser. In a double elimination bracket 15 teams all play at least twice.

How this list was compiled: Bracket layout worked out by Wheel of Teams; it is the layout the bracket maker on this page draws, compared game for game. Fifteen teams go on the 16-slot double elimination bracket with standard seeding (1 v 16, 8 v 9, 5 v 12, 4 v 13, 3 v 14, 6 v 11, 7 v 10, 2 v 15 down the sheet). The one slot left empty faces Seed 1, and every game that would have an empty slot in it is removed. That gives Seed 1 a bye and sends each loser to the place it would have in the full bracket. Every road a seed can take through the 28 games was followed, 439 in all (a team's road depends only on its own results): each one ends as champion with at most one loss, or out with exactly two. Then all 268,435,456 possible sets of results were played through. The checks agree: the total is always 28 or 29 games, no two teams can meet twice before Game 23, a champion plays between 4 and 9 games, and the fewest time slots are 28, 15, 12 and 10 on one, two, three and four courts, plus one if Game 29 is played. The seed paths list the games a seed plays while it keeps winning. The game count (2n - 2, or 2n - 1 when the winner is not undefeated), the two-game final and the names 'if game' and 'bracket reset' were checked on 2026-10-04 against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-elimination_tournament.
