Four sets in the menu

Opens and cups is the first set in the menu: Fourteen Meter Piste Open, Bell Guard Challenge. Foil, épée and saber events has Wrist and Toe Épée Classic and Flunge Fest. Parry, piste and sword puns has Piste Treaty Open and Mark My Swords Challenge. Club, novice and team events has First Lunge Novice Open.

The words in the names

The piste is the strip, 14 meters long. A parry blocks the other blade, and a riposte is the attack made straight after it. A flunge, part flèche and part lunge, belongs to saber, where the feet may not cross. A salle is a fencing hall or club.

Questions and answers

What are funny fencing tournament names?

Life of the Parry Open, Riposte With the Most Open, Touché Subject Open and Lost for Swords Challenge are puns on the sport's own words. The third set holds 37 of them.

What is a good name for an épée tournament?

Wrist and Toe Épée Classic, Double Touch Épée Challenge and No Priority Épée Classic are in the second set. In épée the whole body is the target and there is no right of way, so hits that land together score for both fencers.

What do I call a foil or saber event?

Valid Target Foil Open and Off-Target Foil Fest are for foil, which scores on the torso alone. Cut and Point Saber Open and Edge of the Blade Saber Classic are for saber, where a hit with the edge counts as well as the point.

What should we call a novice or club tournament?

First Mask Novice Classic and Newcomers' Day on the Piste are in the last set, beside names for two clubs that meet, such as Salle Against Salle Classic and Inter-Salle Foil Friendly.

Where are names for a fencing team?

They are on the list of fencing team names. A name for the event with no fencing word, by season or for a fundraiser, is on the tournament name generator.

How this list was compiled

A list of 115 fencing tournament names written by Wheel of Teams on 2026-10-09 and filed in four groups. They are our own suggestions. Every name carries a word of the sport (the piste, a parry, a riposte, a lunge, a bout, a salle, foil, épée, saber) and names the event, an open, a cup or a challenge, not a team. The terms were looked up on 2026-10-09 in the English Wikipedia's Glossary of fencing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_fencing) and its articles Fencing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing), Fencing rules (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing_rules), Foil (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foil_(fencing)), Épée (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89p%C3%A9e), Sabre (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabre_(fencing)), Parry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parry_(fencing)) and Piste (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piste_(fencing)), text under CC BY-SA 4.0, and in USA Fencing's glossary of fencing terms (https://www.usafencing.org/glossary-of-fencing), read the same day. No federation, club, school, blade maker or real tournament is named. Each name, and each run of two and of three words inside it, was looked up in the English Wikipedia on 2026-10-09 as an article title, and each whole name as an exact phrase in the text of its articles; none stood there as an event. That look-up does not find a local event. Compared by script the same day with every other list on this site: no name is repeated. Nothing was checked against a trademark register, so a club's tournament may share a name by coincidence. Licence: own work
