Scoring key

Type what the scale reads
Pounds or kilograms, up to two decimals: 12.34.
Penalty comes off the weight
Empty means none. Big fish is kept beside Tot, not added.

Names and weights stay in this browser. Clear sheet empties the weights.

How it works

This fishing tournament score sheet is one weigh-in table in a browser tab: a row for each angler or boat, a weight, a penalty that comes off and a total. No sign-up, no entry list, nothing shown on other phones.

Score a weigh-in: weight, penalty, total

Type each angler's or boat's name over Angler 1, then the weight as the scale reads it, in pounds or kilograms: 12.34. Penalty takes off whatever your event deducts, and Tot is what is left. The heaviest total is marked Leading. Big fish keeps each entry's heaviest single fish beside its total.

A scale that reads pounds and ounces

Switch to Pounds and ounces and type 12 lb 5 oz as 12 and 5. The sheet adds whole ounces, so nobody converts by hand and two equal catches always tie. Fish by fish takes up to five weights, or five lengths for a catch, photo and release event, and picks out the biggest.

Questions and answers

How do you score a fishing tournament?

By total weight or by length. In a weight event anglers compete on the total weight of a given species caught within a set time. Other events are scored purely on length, the longest fish or the total length, each fish photographed and released.

How do you convert ounces to decimal pounds?

Divide the ounces by 16, the number of ounces in a pound: 5 oz is 0.3125 lb, so 12 lb 5 oz is 12.31 to two decimals. The Pounds and ounces sheet does that division once, after adding in whole ounces.

What is a dead fish penalty?

A penalty an event sets for a fish brought to the weigh-in dead. In bass fishing competitors are penalized for dead fish, and in some events a dead fish is not weighed. Where your event takes weight off, type the amount under Penalty.

Can I print a blank fishing tournament score sheet?

Yes. Print blank sheet prints the open sheet with its rows empty: ten to start, or up to 24 on one Letter or A4 page once you press Add an angler. After typing, Print this weigh-in prints the names and weights.

All 21 columns and notes

Typed boxes 11

  • Big fish The weight of the entry's heaviest single fish, put on the scale by itself, for an event that records one. It sits beside the total and is never added to it.
  • Fish 1 On the fish by fish sheet: one fish's weight, for an event that puts each fish on the scale by itself. In bass fishing the most common format counts each angler's 5 best fish of the day, which is why the sheet has five boxes; your event sets its own number.
  • Fish 2 The second fish. The order the fish are typed in does not matter: the sheet adds every box and picks out the largest.
  • Fish 3 The third fish. In an event that counts three fish, this is the last box to fill.
  • Fish 4 The fourth fish. A box left empty adds nothing, so an angler with fewer fish still gets a total.
  • Fish 5 The fifth fish. In a catch, photo and release event the five boxes take lengths instead of weights.
  • Ounces The ounces over the last whole pound, 0 to 15. A pound is 16 ounces, so a number above 15 is flagged.

Typed boxes, continued

  • Penalty Weight the event takes off, in the same unit as the weight. Whether weight comes off, and how much, is your event's own rule. Leave the box empty for none.
  • Penalty in ounces Under the heading Pen oz: the ounces the event takes off, as a whole number. Typing 8 takes off half a pound. Leave the box empty for none.
  • Pounds On the pounds and ounces sheet: the whole pounds the scale shows. The ounces over go under Oz.
  • Weight The scale's reading for everything the angler, boat or team brought to the weigh-in, typed with up to two decimals: 12.34. Pounds or kilograms both work as long as every row uses the same one. The sheet adds what is typed and names no unit.

Worked out by the sheet 4

  • Biggest fish of the row Under the heading B on the fish by fish sheet: the largest of the boxes typed in that row, picked out by the sheet. Where the boxes hold lengths it is the longest fish.
  • Total in pounds Under the heading Tot on the pounds and ounces sheet. The sheet adds whole ounces, takes the penalty off and shows the result in pounds to two decimals: 12 lb 5 oz shows 12.31, and with 4 ounces off it shows 12.06. Whole ounces never round, so the heavier of two catches always shows more.
  • Total weight Under the heading Tot on the decimal sheet: Weight less Penalty. The heaviest total is marked Leading and equal totals are marked Tied. A weight of 14.62 with 0.5 taken off totals 14.12.
  • Total: fish by fish Fish 1 to Fish 5 added, under the heading Tot. Boxes of 3.4, 2.85 and 4.1 total 10.35, with 4.1 picked out as the biggest.

How to keep the sheet 6

  • B is the biggest fish The largest box in the row, picked out as you type.
  • Fewer than five fish Leave the spare boxes empty. Lengths add the same way.
  • Pen oz is a penalty in ounces It comes off the total. Empty means none.
  • Penalty comes off the weight Empty means none. Big fish is kept beside Tot, not added.
  • Tot is in pounds An ounce is a sixteenth of a pound: 12 lb 5 oz shows 12.31.
  • Type what the scale reads Pounds or kilograms, up to two decimals: 12.34.

How this list was compiled: The layout and the arithmetic are our own work: a weigh-in sheet with one row for each angler, boat or team, a weight box, a penalty that comes off and a total. No limit, penalty size or tie-break is set by the sheet, and no event's form is copied. Checked on 2026-10-06 against English Wikipedia: anglers compete on the total weight of a given species caught within a set time, and other competitions are based purely on length with mandatory catch and release, the longest fish or the total length being documented with a camera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishing_tournament); in bass fishing the most common format is that each angler weighs the 5 best fish of the day, competitors are penalized for dead fish and in some cases dead fish are not weighed, and fish turned in for weighing are released (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_fishing); the avoirdupois pound is divided into 16 ounces (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_(mass)). The total on the pounds and ounces sheet is plain arithmetic on that figure: pounds times 16 plus ounces, less the penalty in ounces, divided by 16.
