Each bar height goes in its heading
On a sheet printed before the heights were typed, write each one beside Bar 1 to Bar 4. The officials announce every height before the first jump.
O, X or a dash for each attempt
O is a clearance, X a miss, a dash a pass. Write them side by side under the height: XXO is a clearance on the third try.
Three X in a row and the jumper is out
Count across heights: X– under one height and XX under the next make three.
Best is the last height with an O
Write NM for a jumper who cleared nothing.

How it works

This high jump score sheet opens on twelve jumpers and four bar heights. Type each height over its heading, then print the sheet blank for the pit or mark the attempts on screen. No meet, athlete or height is loaded.

A competition of more than four heights

More heights is a second sheet with six more height columns and the same numbered lines. Print both for a competition of up to ten heights.

Places after the last jump

Results and ties has a line for each jumper with best height, tries, misses and place, for the countback when two jumpers finish on the same height.

  • Heights in feet and inches? A heading is plain text, so type 4-10 or 5-0 over it.

Questions and answers

How is a tie broken in the high jump?

By countback. Fewer attempts at the last height cleared places a jumper higher. If those are equal, fewer misses up to and including that height does. Still equal, the jumpers share the place, and a tie for first can go to a jump-off.

How many attempts do you get in the high jump?

Up to three at a height: three misses in a row, at one height or across several, end a jumper's competition. A jumper may start at any announced height and may pass one, even after a miss there, but cannot return to a passed height.

Does a pole vault use the same score sheet?

Yes. Under the World Athletics rules the two vertical jumps share the marks, the three misses in a row and the countback. Only the heights differ. The printed title reads High Jump, so write Pole Vault over it.

Can I print a blank high jump score sheet?

Yes. Print blank sheet prints the numbered lines and your headings with every box empty. For a file in place of paper, choose Save as PDF in the print window.

All 9 rows and notes

Lines of the sheet 1

  • Jumper Twelve numbered lines to start, one jumper on each, in jumping order.

How to mark the sheet 8

  • Best is the last height with an O Write NM for a jumper who cleared nothing.
  • Each bar height goes in its heading On a sheet printed before the heights were typed, write each one beside Bar 1 to Bar 4. The officials announce every height before the first jump.
  • Keep the jumpers in the order of the first sheet Line 4 is then the same jumper on both sheets. Best and Place go on the first sheet.
  • Misses: every X up to the best height Count the X under the best height and under every height before it. An X after the last clearance is left out.
  • O, X or a dash for each attempt O is a clearance, X a miss, a dash a pass. Write them side by side under the height: XXO is a clearance on the third try.
  • Same Best: lower Tries, then lower Misses Two jumpers equal on all three get the same number in Place.
  • Three X in a row and the jumper is out Count across heights: X– under one height and XX under the next make three.
  • Tries: attempts at the best height Write 1, 2 or 3: the marks under the last height the jumper cleared, the O counted.
