College Basketball Spin the Wheel: 147 Teams: how it works

For college basketball, spin the wheel below: 147 men's Division I teams, every team in 11 conferences from the ACC to the West Coast. One school comes up, with its nickname, campus and the last year it played in the national tournament. A conference chip narrows it: 1 in 18 in the ACC, 1 in 9 in the Pac-12.

A random college basketball team to follow

Plenty of fans have never watched a MAC or Atlantic 10 game, and a random college basketball team gives you one to track. The detail line says what you are taking on: 48 of the 147 played in the 2026 national tournament, Bowling Green last played in one in 1968, and Denver never has.

Which teams are on the college basketball team wheel

Division I has 365 men's teams in 32 conferences; the wheel takes 150 names at most, so it carries 11 conferences in full. Eight sent more than one team to the 2026 national tournament: the ACC, Atlantic 10, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, MAC, SEC and West Coast. The American, the Mountain West and the rebuilt Pac-12 are our own additions. Chips follow basketball membership: Notre Dame plays in the ACC, UConn in the Big East.

Tips

  • Play it as a quiz: spin, cover the detail line and name the nickname. Tigers and Wildcats are the safest guesses, with 6 schools each.
  • A college basketball wheel spin can settle a pedigree argument: compare national titles in the detail lines. UCLA has 11, Kentucky 8, North Carolina and UConn 6 each.
  • Only want your state? Type its schools into My list. California has 15 on this wheel, Texas 12 and Ohio 10.

Questions and answers

Does this wheel have every Division I team?

No. This wheel of college basketball teams holds 147 of the 365 men's programs, so it is not a complete random NCAA basketball team generator. Type schools from the other 21 conferences into My list. Membership was checked on 18 September 2026. Women's teams are not on it.

Is every school equally likely on the random college basketball team wheel?

Yes. With All on, each school has a 1 in 147 chance, so the ACC and the Big Ten come up most often only because they have 18 teams each. Inside the Big East it is 1 in 11.

Does the wheel include the 2026 conference moves?

Yes. The Pac-12 is back to nine teams: Gonzaga, Texas State and five former Mountain West schools beside Oregon State and Washington State. Hawaii, UC Davis and UTEP moved to the Mountain West, and Denver joined the West Coast. This NCAA basketball wheel follows basketball membership; football's is on the college football wheel.

How this list was compiled: 147 men's Division I basketball programs for the 2026–27 season: every team in 11 of the 32 conferences, grouped by the conference each one plays basketball in. The wheel holds at most 150 entries, so the choice follows basketball: the eight conferences that placed more than one team in the 2026 national tournament (ACC, Atlantic 10, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, MAC, SEC and West Coast, per the bids table at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_NCAA_Division_I_men's_basketball_tournament, read 2026-09-19), plus three more that we chose for the schools in them: the American, the Mountain West and the rebuilt Pac-12. The 218 teams of the other 21 conferences, which were checked in the same pass, are left off this page. Schools, nicknames and basketball conferences were taken on 2026-09-18 from the table at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_Division_I_men's_basketball_programs (raw wikitext, 365 rows, affiliations for 2026–27) and read again on 2026-09-19, and campus cities from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_Division_I_institutions, which agrees with the first list on every school's conference. The membership of every conference was checked on 2026-09-18 against ESPN's 2026–27 conference lists (espn.com/mens-college-basketball/teams and the matching data at sports.core.api.espn.com); the two agree on every team on this page. Atlantic 10 and West Coast membership was read again on 2026-09-19 at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_10_Conference and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Coast_Conference. Conference moves for 2026 in the detail lines come from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021–2026_NCAA_conference_realignment and match the change between ESPN's 2025–26 and 2026–27 lists. The Pac-12's nine members were also read at pac-12.com. ncaa.com's own standings page and themw.com returned no team names to the checker, so the association's site was not used. The tournament line on each team (the last year it played in the national tournament, and any national titles) comes from the same programs table, read 2026-09-19: the 68 teams it marks for 2026 are the same 68 as in the 2026 tournament article, and every title year matches en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_Division_I_men's_basketball_champions. Appearances and titles that were later vacated are not counted. 'Campus in' is the school's location as the Wikipedia table gives it; some teams play home games in a nearby city, so it is not called an arena location. Arena names, season records, rankings, colors and mascots are left out on purpose. Basketball conference can differ from football conference. Names are plain text used to describe the wheel; no logos, colors or artwork are used. Conference membership changes most summers, so the list is re-checked every August, and the tournament lines every April.
