64 Team Tournament Bracket: how it works

A 64 team tournament bracket fills every line, so no seed sits out: 32 games in the round of 64, then 16, 8, 4, 2 and the final. That is 63 games, and the champion wins six. Type 64 teams or players and tap winners through, or print it blank.

Four quarters of 16

Each quarter of 16 lines sends one team to the semifinals. The first holds Seeds 1, 8, 9 and 16 and ends at quarterfinal Game 57; the second ends at Game 58 with Seeds 4 and 5, the third at Game 59 with Seeds 3 and 6, the fourth at Game 60 with Seeds 2 and 7. Courts and a two-day split

One court needs 63 slots, two 32, three 22, four 17 and eight 10. No number of courts beats six slots: a finalist has six games to play. Over two days, play the rounds of 64 and 32 first: 48 games, leaving 16 teams and 15 games for day two.

Tips

  • A 64 tournament bracket also settles a vote: 64 songs, snacks or mascots on the lines, and the room decides every game.
  • For day two, type the winners of Games 33, 47, 41, 39, 37, 43, 45, 35, 36, 46, 44, 38, 40, 42, 48 and 34, in order, into the 16 team bracket: its game numbers are this sheet's minus 48.

Questions and answers

How many games does each team get?

Thirty-two teams play once. Sixteen play twice, eight play three times, four play four, the beaten semifinalists play five and both finalists play six. For more, play 16 pools of four first and send each pool's top two into a 32 team bracket.

What if fewer than 64 turn up, or a 65th enters?

Set the Teams box to the real number: 63 teams give Seed 1 a bye and 62 games, and 60 give Seeds 1 to 4 a bye. A 65th team adds one game up front, Seed 64 against Seed 65, whose winner meets Seed 1.

Can I print a blank 64 team bracket?

Yes. Leave the names empty and it prints as a form: Seed 1 to Seed 64 on the first-round lines and a number on all 63 games. Print lays the two halves facing each other; Print large, 5 sheets gives each quarter its own page, plus one for the semifinals and final.

How to run it as four regions seeded 1 to 16 5

  • A regional seed is the seed number divided by four, rounded up Seeds 1 to 4 become the four 1 seeds, Seeds 5 to 8 the 2 seeds, and so on to Seeds 61 to 64, the 16 seeds. Each quarter of the sheet is then one region, and every first-round pair of regional seeds adds up to 17.
  • First quarter, the region of Seed 1: regional seeds 1 to 16 are Seeds 1, 8, 9, 16, 17, 24, 25, 32, 33, 40, 41, 48, 49, 56, 57 and 64 Lines 1 to 16. Games 1 to 8 read 1 v 16, 8 v 9, 5 v 12, 4 v 13, 3 v 14, 6 v 11, 7 v 10 and 2 v 15 down the sheet.
