How it works

This slowpitch softball lineup generator puts ten in the field, with center field split into left center and right center, and writes a batting order with every player in it. It suits rec and co-ed teams.

Make the lineup

Replace the sample names with your team, one per line. Under More options, tick who may pitch; anyone can play the other nine spots. Set the innings, often fewer than seven when your league plays to a time limit, then print the chart for the dugout or copy it into the team chat.

How the bench is shared

Ten field, the rest sit, and everyone still bats. Twelve players over seven innings make 14 bench turns: two players sit twice and ten sit once. Press Next game and the ones who sat least sit first.

Questions and answers

Can it keep a co-ed batting order?

Yes, if you type it. Some co-ed leagues make the batting order alternate men and women. Type your names in that order and choose Keep as typed; the chart keeps your order and only moves players in the field.

Can I play a short fielder instead of LCF and RCF?

Read left center as your short fielder, the extra player behind second base, and right center as your deep center fielder. The ten spots and the bench turns stay the same.

What if only nine show up?

Slowpitch can be played with nine fielders. The chart needs ten names, so add a placeholder such as Nobody and leave that spot empty on the day, usually one of the two center fielders.

Battery 2

Catcher Behind the plate. For adults the rules recommend a mask but do not require one; youth catchers must wear one.
Pitcher Lofts the ball in an arc of 6 to 12 feet so it drops onto the plate.

Infield 4

First base Takes most of the infield's throws.
Second base Covers between first and second base.
Shortstop Between second and third base.
Third base Fields hard hits pulled down the third-base line.

Outfield 4

Left center field One of the two players who share center field.
Left field Outfield, on the third-base side.
Right center field The other half of center field.
Right field Outfield, on the first-base side.
