How it works

This softball lineup generator is for fastpitch: nine in the field, games of seven innings. Type your team and it writes a batting order with every player in it, then a fielding chart for each inning.

Make the lineup

Replace the sample names with your team, one per line. Under More options, tick who may pitch and who may catch; only they are put there. Set the innings, often fewer than seven with a time limit, then print the chart for the dugout or copy it as text for the team chat.

How the bench is shared

Nine field, the rest sit, and everyone still bats in turn. Eleven players over seven innings make 14 bench turns: three players sit twice and eight sit once. Press Next game and the ones who sat least sit first.

Questions and answers

Does it handle the DP and flex?

No. The designated player bats for one fielder, the flex, who plays defense only, and the swaps between them follow set rules. Make the chart with your nine fielders, then write DP beside the batter and FLEX beside the fielder.

Is this for slow pitch too?

No: slow pitch puts ten in the field, with center field shared or a short fielder behind second. Use the slow pitch softball lineup generator, which has ten positions.

Can the batting order change during the game?

No. The batting order stays the same all game, and a substitute bats in the place of the player they replace. Choose Keep as typed if you want your own order instead of a shuffled one.

First base Takes most of the infield's throws.
Second base Plays between first and second; covers first when the ball goes to the first baseman.

Third base The hot corner: fields hard hits and more bunts than the pitcher or first baseman.

Outfield 3

Center field Covers the most ground of the three outfielders.
Left field Outfield, on the third-base side.
Right field Outfield, on the first-base side.
