How it works
A 5 team bracket has one opening game, Seed 4 against Seed 5. The winner meets Seed 1 in a semifinal, and Seeds 2 and 3 play the other semifinal on their first game. Four games in all.

Three byes, one opening game
Three of the sheet's eight lines are empty, beside Seeds 1, 2 and 3. Seed 1's bye leads to a team that has already won once; Seeds 2 and 3 spend theirs on each other in Game 3. Seeds 4 and 5 need three wins for the title, the top three need two.
Courts and slots
One court needs four slots. Two courts need three: Game 3 runs beside the opening game, then Game 2, then the final. More courts do not help, because Game 2 waits for Game 1. In that plan the Game 3 winner has a slot off before the final.
Tips
- In a 5 team playoff bracket the cut falls after Seed 3: fourth in the standings plays an extra game.
Questions and answers
How many games are in a 5 team single elimination bracket?
Four. Game 1 is the opening game, Games 2 and 3 are the semifinals and Game 4 is the final. The 5 team double elimination bracket takes 8 or 9 games and a 5 team round robin takes 10.
Who gets a bye in a 5 team tournament bracket?
Seeds 1, 2 and 3, the first three lines of Your teams. Only Seeds 4 and 5 play in round one, and at least two teams play just once: the losers of Games 1 and 3.
Can five players use it as a 5 man bracket?
Yes. With one player per line it is a 5 person bracket for darts, cornhole or table tennis: four matches. Type the names in ranking order, or press Random draw once they are in.
What if one team drops out, or a sixth enters?
Change the Teams box to 4 or 6 and the sheet is redrawn. Four teams have no byes: 1 v 4 and 2 v 3. With six, Seed 3 plays Seed 6 for a semifinal against Seed 2.
