How it works

A 3 team bracket is the smallest sheet this tool draws: two games. Seed 2 plays Seed 3 in Game 1, and the winner meets Seed 1, who has the bye, in the final.

One bye, straight into the final

The sheet has four lines and the one beside Seed 1 is empty, so Seed 1 goes straight to the final. One win takes the title for Seed 1; Seed 2 or Seed 3 needs two. With no rankings, type the three names and press Random draw: the name drawn first holds the bye.

Courts and slots

Two slots, however many courts there are: the final cannot start until Game 1 ends. Seed 1 sits out the first slot, and the Game 1 winner plays twice in a row unless a break is left.

Questions and answers

How many games are in a 3 team single elimination bracket?

Two: Game 1 between Seeds 2 and 3, then the final. Switch from Single to Double and the three play 4 or 5 games. A 3 team round robin is three games, two for each team.

Who gets the bye in a bracket for 3 teams?

Seed 1, the first line of Your teams. The bye is worth half the path: one win for the title instead of two. Seeds 2 and 3 play for the other place in the final.

Can three players use it as a 3 man bracket?

Yes. One name per line in Your teams turns it into a 3 person bracket for darts, cornhole or table tennis. Leave the box empty and the printout shows Seed 1, Seed 2 and Seed 3 to write over.

What if a fourth team enters?

Set the Teams box to 4. Nobody has a bye then: Seed 1 plays Seed 4, Seed 2 plays Seed 3, and the winners meet in the final, three games. The box stops at 3: two teams need one game, not a bracket.

Each seed's path to the title 3

  • Seed 1: Game 2 Bye in round 1. One win takes the title, half of what the other two need.
  • Seed 2: Game 1 and Game 2
  • Seed 3: Game 1 and Game 2

How this list was compiled: Layout worked out by Wheel of Teams. Three teams go on a four-line sheet in standard seeding order; Seed 4 does not exist, so Seed 1 has the only bye and waits in the final for the winner of 2 v 3. The two games listed here are the ones the site's bracket tool draws for three teams, and every build of the site compares them game for game. Both games sit in one chain, so the sheet needs two slots on any number of courts.
