Golf League Schedule Generator: how it works

A golf league schedule is two problems: who plays whom each week, and who tees off when. This golf league schedule generator rotates opponents for 6 to 24 two-person teams, or 8 to 24 individual players in even numbers, deals the tee times so nobody is always last off, and alternates the nines. The example is 8 teams over 14 weeks.

8 two-person teams: 4 tee times, a 7 week cycle

Each match is one foursome, so eight teams need four tee times: 5:00 to 5:30 pm in the example. Over the seven week cycle every team meets the other seven once and draws each tee time once or twice. A cycle is always an odd number of weeks, so alternating front and back nine puts every rematch on the other nine.

Individual players, odd team counts and subs

Singles sheets put two matches in each foursome, so 16 players need only four tee times and draw each one three or four times a cycle. With 10, 14, 18 or 22 players the spare match goes off first as a twosome. An odd team count gives every team one week off per cycle. A sub plays the absent golfer's line.

Tips

  • Type the interval your course really books, then check the last tee time against sunset: nine holes takes about two hours.
  • Past eight groups, ask the pro shop about a shotgun start: every group begins at once on a different hole. Clear First tee time for a blank Hole column and write the starting holes in by hand.
  • A 16 week season on an 11 week cycle leaves five spare weeks. Keep them for rainouts and a position night: first against second, third against fourth.

Questions and answers

How are the tee times kept fair?

Over one cycle every team draws each tee time once or twice, and exactly twice when the team count is odd. A plain round robin list cannot promise that: one team can close the tee sheet most weeks. Every sheet below states its own figures.

Does it work out handicaps or points?

No. Scoring stays with your league. In match play the lower score wins the hole and a tied hole is halved, with handicap strokes taken as the difference from the lowest handicap in the match. In four-ball, also called better ball, the hole goes to the side whose member has the lowest score.

Can the whole league see changes online?

No. There are no accounts: names stay in your browser and travel inside the share link, so a rainout means a new sheet and a fresh link. For paper or a PDF, use your browser's print window. Live standings need hosted league software.

How this list was compiled: Tee sheets worked out by Wheel of Teams and checked by script on 2026-09-18 and again on 2026-09-19. Opponents rotate by the circle method described at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament (one seat fixed, the rest move one place a week; with an odd number of teams the fixed seat is the empty chair, so a different team rests each week). Tee times are then dealt so the early and late slots are shared. The checking script rebuilds every sheet from the stored chart and confirms that each pair of entrants meets exactly once a cycle, that nobody plays twice in a week, that with an odd count every team rests exactly once, that the number of times each entrant draws each tee time stays inside the range its description gives, that the last tee time equals the first plus the interval times the number of later groups, and that every cycle is an odd number of weeks, which is why a rematch falls on the other nine when the nines alternate weekly. x.nines has one entry for every week of the season as set, front on odd week numbers and back on even ones, counted from week 1 of the season and never started again when the chart repeats; a longer season carries on the same way. In each chart a match is a pair of seat numbers; a tee time lists one match for two-person teams and two matches for singles. The tool deals seat numbers to names at random. The 5:00 pm first tee time and the 10 minute interval are editable starting values, not a recommendation: use the interval the course gives you. Golf wording was checked on 2026-09-18 against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Match_play (a hole is won by the lower score and a tied hole is halved; handicap strokes are taken as the difference from the lowest handicap), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-ball_golf (four-ball is also called better ball; each hole goes to the side whose member has the lowest score), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun_start (all groups tee off at once from different holes) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf (a course has 9 or 18 holes; a typical group is 1 to 4 players; about two hours for nine holes).
