How it works
In a 24 team bracket the top eight seeds wait while Seeds 9 to 24 play eight opening games. Every round of 16 game is then a rested seed against a winner. Twenty-three games in all.

Eight byes, and no game between rested seeds
A third of the field skips round one. Seed 1 waits for the 16 v 17 winner, Seed 2 for 15 v 18, and Seed 8 for 9 v 24, the widest gap of the opening round. Seeds 1 to 8 need four wins for the title, Seeds 9 to 24 five, and at least eight teams play just once.
Courts and slots
One court needs 23 slots, two courts 12, three courts 9, four courts 7. Six courts need 6, and eight courts finish in 5, one slot per round. Nothing in the round of 16 can start early: every game there waits on an opening game.
Tips
- Finishing 8th instead of 9th saves a game: Seed 9 opens against Seed 24, then meets Seed 8.
Questions and answers
How many games are in a 24 team single elimination bracket?
Twenty-three: eight opening games, eight in the round of 16, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and the final. Switch from Single to Double and the count is 46 or 47.
Who gets a bye in a bracket for 24 teams?
Seeds 1 to 8, the first eight lines of Your teams. The other sixteen play in round one, and each bye seed's first opponent has already won a game.
Can it be a 24 team non seeded bracket?
Yes. Type the 24 names in any order and press Random draw. It shuffles every name into the lines, so the eight byes go to the names drawn first to eighth.
Does it work as a 24 man bracket for singles?
Yes. One player per line makes it a 24 person bracket for darts, cornhole or table tennis: 23 matches. It opens blank, with Seed 1 to Seed 24 on the lines; print it that way or type the names first.
What if one team drops out, or a 25th enters?
Type 23 or 25 in the Teams box. With 23, Seed 9 has a bye and meets Seed 8 directly. With 25, Seed 8 plays Seed 25 in a ninth opening game.
